The Harry Potter vibe returned to Year 4 on Monday when the children experienced the first of three workshops on creative writing. The Sorting Hat made an appearance in the starter activity and it certainly got the creative juices going. Children threw in nouns and adjectives to be sorted and, after a quick spell and flick of wands, they retrieved three and began to write a short story, using the words for inspiration. A buzz of excitement filled the room which very soon became a hive of activity.
The main activity was centred on creating and developing character descriptions. This included the explanation and practise of advanced writing techniques. The children were also encouraged to use their senses to visualise and record their ideas on a template before writing a short paragraph describing a day in the life of their chosen character.
Several children shared their wonderful work with the rest of the class.
